QUILT MERCANTILE-Handi Quilter Van event April 28th-May 10th

Thank you for your support of Quilt Mercantile!  As a Handi Quilter dealer for 16 years, we are dedicated to organizing the education quilters seek in their long arm quilting journey.  We believe the store you pick to be your dealer is key to a successful experience.  We have always focused on having continuing education with each long arm purchase.  Most of the below classes are for owners.  Saturday May 3rd is for new owners that want to practice the process using Pro Stitcher but it also basic enough that a non owner can join the class and get a wall hanging quilted for a great price!  May 8th & 9th classes are for NON OWNERS that want to test out Handi Quilter long arm machines.  We always have access to scheduling a hands on private class with Jackie Brown.  She charges very reasonable fees and is amazing with total beginners and has the skills to teach you the most advanced skills.  For 2025 we have three sets of two weeks of hands on long arm classes.  The next sets are September 3rd-13th and November 10th-22nd.

 

Below is the list of options for current machine owners for the first Handi Quilter event of 2025.   We prefer Venmo payment if you are not able to come in store to pay.  We can send that information when needed.  Reply to this email to request to sign up and include your best phone number.  We will contact you and advise availability of space in the class you are requesting.

Have you ever thought about designing your own patterns by using Pro Stitcher Studio?

Well you can! Just get started and learn some of the fundamental functions. Learn how to use the drawing tools to make shapes and designs. You will be able to create and preview any design to see how it will stitch out. When you are pleased with your results you can digitize and save the design in your favorite format. You will always have the pattern ready for any quilt.  There is no end to what you can create.

Supplies:

- PC Lap top with Pro Stitcher Studio (Designer) downloaded and. This MUST be done before class so everyone can make progress. Please download confirm program opens on your laptop before class.

- Note pad and pen

 

Let’s get started and design your own edge to edge pattern. I will take you through the process of using the right tools needed. Once you create your design you can save and digitize it in any of the 12 formats. Now it’s time to download it onto a thumb drive and take it to the machine.

Supplies:

- PC Lap top with Pro Stitcher Studio (Designer) down loaded. This MUST be done before class so everyone can make progress. Please download confirm program opens on your laptop before class.

- Thumb drive

- Note pad and pen

- 2 yards Top fabric, backing

- batting

 

It’s fun time! Ready set go! Let’s just relax and go with the flow. Creating free motion edge to edge patterns can make any quilt come to life. Just fill in the space. There are no other rules. You can mix and match design elements or keep it simple. You can also make the pattern as large or small as you want. Easy Breezy!

Supplies:

- 2 yards of muslin – top, backing

- batting

- Note pad and pen

 

Feathers, feathers and more feathers!! Feathers are so beautiful on a quilt. This is a fun class that will get you started. Let’s dive in and create quilted feathers. There are so many different types, and shapes. Once you know how to stitch them with a little practice you will have the confidence to put them on a quilt. You will learn the basics of creating free motion feathers with echoing. Feathers with back tacking. Fun and whimsical feathers.  You will learn how to stitch feathers in different shapes and how to stitch feathers on a border.

Supplies:

-2 yards of muslin fabric for the front and back

- 2 yards of batting

- Water soluble marking tool

- Note pad and pen

 

Background fills will make any quilt pop. You can be as creative as you want by using more than one fill or keep it simple. Just have fun! There are so many different types of fills or you can make up your own. You will be using precision, cruse and manual.

- 2 yards of muslin – top, backing

- Batting

- Note pad and pen

Your long arm can be used for many fun projects other than quilting a top!  Project 1: Many students have admired Loretta's apron in our past classes.  She has done it!  She figured out...In this project class you’ll learn techniques that will be skill builders for other creative projects. This apron has 5 pockets with one of them being a zippered pocket for a wallet or cellphone. It also has a center pocket that is the perfect size for your cheater readers or a rotary cutter. I love this apron because it has a place for everything. • Attaching ribbon • Attaching binding • Attaching perfect zipper. Project 2:  Placemats make great presents.  These techniques can be used when make a quilt top on a larger scale.  • Slapplique • Reverse applique • Piecing on the longarm • Echo quilting • Free motion • Using Pro-Stitcher to do fill work • Binding • Attaching a pocket to your project.

Included in this class are some of the most common requests:

-Cropping(inside, outside, start/end) and combining designs. 

-Editing existing designs without using Designer, such as removing elements.

AM-Background fills using Pro Stitcher 

Interested in building a library of designs you can use with confidence? In this

workshop, you’ll identify shapes you already love to quilt, learn how to create pathways to connect

designs, and explore using different threads to really make your background fill quilting pop.

We will have 6 stations set up, each with it's own technique and teacher to help you. You'll spend 30 minutes at each station, then switch to the next. Stations are:

-Couching

-Stencils

-Piece as you go

-Rulers

-Open toe/stippling/pebbles

-Binding your quilt on the longarm
