Quilt play...a compositional quilting class with Susan Manry

Here’s a class that’s really different! Susan calls it “Quilt Play”, and you’re going to find it great fun to use several longarm quilting techniques to create a small wholecloth quilt project. You’ll begin by selecting a central motif. Maybe it’s a Pro-Stitcher design you love, a stencil you own, your own design, or any simple motif that you’re inspired by. Susan’s sample quilt shown here, was inspired by Handi Quilter’s 60-degree diamond template and blossomed from there! Don’t be alarmed; the sample quilt was done over several days! Your quilt can be as simple or complex as you wish, and you don’t have to finish it in class if you want to elaborate later. Susan will guide you using Pro-Stitcher, (if you have it), Stencils, Rulers and Templates, and Free Motion quilting to compose your own wonderful, one-of-a-kind quilt. You’ll even learn to attach the binding on the quilting frame! This is a virtual class, so you’ll be taking instruction over Zoom and working at your own machine. No machine sharing required, and you can work in your jammies and no one will know!
Before class,
-Load your machine with the backing, and a soft batting - Susan uses wool because it really promotes the quilting.
-Thread your machine and baste down the edges of your quilt top.

You’ll need rulers; Susan suggests Handi Quilter’s Versa Tool, Swiss Cheese, and Wiggle Wave. If you already have similar rulers, great, and if you have more, bring them all to the party, as you’ll love using them in new and creative ways.
